Detroit Housing Commission Detroit City Homes Sovereign Estates

Project Based Voucher - Rivertown Assisted Living Complex for Elderly Persons
DHC has 67 Assisted Living apartments located at Rivertown Assisted Living, 250 McDougall, Detroit, Michigan.
Applications must apply at Rivertown Assisted Living Complex.  Applications will not be available or accepted at any DHC office, via fax, or email.
Please note:
Applying for the Rivertown Project Based Voucher waiting list does not ensure your eligibility to receive Project Based assistance nor does it ensure that the owner and management of Rivertown Assisted Living will deem you a suitable candidate for occupancy.

Since the demand for housing assistance often exceeds the limited resources available to HUD and the local housing agencies, long waiting periods are common.  We do not anticipate re-opening any Wait Lists in the near future.  DHC opens its HCV waiting list on an as-needed basis.
When we do, we will place a notice on the home page of this site, www.dhcmi.org, in the local newspaper, and through various media outlets as deemed necessary to reach potentially eligible households not otherwise likely to apply.  The public notice will state that pre-applications for the Housing Choice Voucher Program will be accepted, how they will be accepted, and the time frame that the waiting list will be open.
Because of the overwhelming demand for assistance in most categories, when DHC’s wait lists get low, we usually hold a lottery to select families to add to the wait list.  A lottery ensures that all families who express an interest in Section 8 or Public Housing assistance are given an equal opportunity to apply for a limited number of openings. Your place on the wait list can go up or down as families’ preferences change.
DHC does not provide emergency housing.  If you need emergency housing assistance, or need information about any health or human services provider in Wayne County, contact http://julieslist.homestead.com/Index.html.

Eligibility Requirements

During the application process, DHC will collect information on family income, assets, and family composition. DHC will verify this information with other local agencies, your employer and bank, and will use the information to determine program eligibility and the amount of the housing assistance payment.
If DHC determines that your family is eligible, your name will be placed on a waiting list, unless it is able to assist you immediately. Once your name is reached on the waiting list, DHC will contact you and issue to you a housing voucher.
